Riley made his final trip into the mountains that he loved on Sunday, January 23, 2022. Riley was born May 23, 1985 to Danny and Charlotte Hutchinson and 3 older brothers Flinn, Chris, and Dustin. He grew up in American Fork, the town where he was born. He attended Greenwood and Legacy Elementary grade schools. During his schooling at Legacy, he became very interested in chemistry and the wonders of science. He went on to earn his GED. It was at this same time that he developed a close relationship with his Heavenly Father. His testimony of God and his belief in the power of prayer never faltered and carried him through some very difficult days.
Riley was married once to the love of his life and so wished that that relationship could have endured. Prior to his marriage to Erin Twiggs, Riley found his pal, his best friend, and 13-year hunting companion. He named him Dbol and they were nearly inseparable. How many people do you know that takes a Yorkshire Terrier hunting bear? Riley did. They spent many hours in the mountains hiking, hunting, and enjoying time in nature together. Like all things in this cruel world, Riley lost Dbol on November 25, 2020. This was a very difficult time for him and proved to be a time where his heart grew steadfastly committed to his little pal. At the time of Riley's passing, he wore a locket containing Dbol's ashes. Unbeknownst to most people, Riley suffered from severe health problems. More than one doctor had told him that they didn't know how he was able to even walk let alone hike, pack out wild game from the mountains, and do the physical things that he did. He did these things out of perseverance and a desire not to let those physical impairments take away his love for life. He might have been short in stature, but he was a giant. He had so much determination that the first bear he ever killed he went on 53 separate excursions to accomplish his goal. Riley was active in the Utah County chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation. He spent a lot of time involved in conservation projects and banquets. Most of all, Riley loved people. His list of friends and contacts on his phone is enormous. Riley was self-employed and was a successful business man and entrepreneur.
Riley was a true Patriot and loved this country. Many were the times that Riley bought a meal for service men, complete strangers, that were at the same restaurant as he was. He would approach them, thank them for their service, and then unbeknownst to them pay for their meal. This was his way of showing gratitude to them for their service. He loved his family and they easily returned his love. Riley was most at home setting around a campfire and sharing stories. Riley made you feel like you were the most important thing in his life. His commitment was profound and his loyalty was solid. He would literally do anything for you if he saw the need. His departure from our mortal lives brings a void that will never be filled. Our hearts long to embrace him and see his contagious smile. Thankful are we that all of us will be found once more in his strong embrace.
Stay strong and serve each other. Make the world a better place. That is what Riley tried to do every day. In accordance with Riley's wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral. However, the family plans to host a Celebrate of Life event at a later date.
