IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Henry
Anderson
October 29, 1929 – February 22, 2023
Robert (Bob) Henry Anderson was born October 29, 1929, "Black Tuesday", the beginning of the Great Depression. He spent 93 years on this earth before rejoining his parents, youngest brother and oldest son, Mike (DeAnn), on February 22, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Maida Anderson and children: Steve (Diana), Christine Perry (Brent), Richard (Nancy), John (Alison), Kevin (Jolyn), Kim Stevenson (Mark), Kurt (Karen), Shauna Hiatt, Wendy Coplen, Keri Hensley (Vic), Jeff (Rainey), Kory (Amy), Kelli Murray (Kyle), and Kass Miles (Jerome). He is also survived by hundreds of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Bob was born in Santa Monica, CA to Robert and Doris Anderson. Bob grew up in Burbank with his two younger brothers, Richard and William, and his younger sister Ruth. Bob was an energetic child who loved animals and getting into trouble. He kept his mother on her toes throughout his youth between putting rattlesnake eggs in the cupboards and trying to outrun the police when he started driving.
At age 12 he began working with his father in construction. As a teenager he joined the Civil Air Force Patrol. There he met the mother of his first five children. In 1961 he met the love of his life and mother of his last ten children. He established RMA Construction with his father in 1949. Bob built his contracting office on the same property as his Utah home in order to be closer to his family. Bob built many homes and buildings that he was proud of including the home in Utah in which he raised his children, an FBI building, apartments and restaurants. He got his pilot license when he was about 50 years old and would fly all over the country for jobs.
Bob was an active part of the LDS church. After he finally retired at age 80 he enjoyed continuing his callings. In retirement he worked both at the Bishop's Storehouse helping families get food while giving free nutritional advice and served 16 years as a temple worker. This was one of his favorite callings and he was disappointed when the pandemic ended his opportunity to serve.
Bob always loved a good tree to sleep under whether he was at Lagoon while his kids and grandkids played, or taking a break after mowing a lawn. He loved to read the Sunday Comics each week, citing "the funnies" as his favorite book. In his plaid shirt, blue Dickies and RMA hat he would sing from the moment he woke up until bedtime. He loved both church hymns and 50s songs with his own version of the "right" lyrics. He was always engaging in new toys with his children and grandchildren such as waverunners, a motorhome, and even a unicycle. He always needed to be home on Saturday by 7 to watch his favorite show, Lawrence Welk. He loved going to the movies and doing the daily crossword in the paper. He could never pass up a good pun and relished funny cards on his birthday. He made the best potato salad, peanut butter cookies, and pots of beans.
Bob was fiercely protective of his family and rejoiced whenever a new member was added to the Anderson clan. He had strong faith and blessed his family with his priesthood, comforting them with blessings and strengthening them with prayer. He was an amazing neighbor and friend, willing to drop what he was doing to help, whether it was a wall that needed patching or a car that needed towing.
When asked in his last week of life what words of wisdom he had to share, he emphatically stated, "Don't drink milk".
Bob was full of life and vigor throughout his life. His laugh filled his home and he never shied away from sharing his opinions. He loved his country, his religion and his family. He will not be forgotten.
There will be a viewing from 10:45-11:45 am at the Provo River Ward Chapel Building 4775 N 300 W Provo, with the funeral at 12:00pm.
