Robert Scott Moran, a beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away from an unexpected accident at his home in Orem, Utah on Saturday, February 1st, 2020. He was 41 years old.
Rob, as he was known to his family, was born to Florence and Clarence Robert Moran Jr. on June 14th, 1978 in Ridgecrest, California. From an early age he demonstrated high levels of energy, vibrance and intelligence. He was a bright child, with a love for all things mechanical. He enjoyed working on cars, attending military airshows, and spending time outdoors. He often spent summers backpacking and hiking in the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains with his father. He was an Eagle Scout. During these years he grew especially close to his father and formed a friendship that would become indispensable throughout his lifetime.
Rob left Ridgecrest, California to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Boise, Idaho. Following two years of missionary service he moved to Utah to attend college and study engineering. He loved aviation and formed an early passion for the subject. He excelled in Math and Physics and graduated from Utah State University in Logan, Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
Following Rob's graduation, he worked as an Engineer for the U.S. Air Force at Hill Air Force Base in Layton UT. He loved his work and was able to put his passions into action with the engineering support arm of the U.S. armed forces fixing, repairing, and refurbishing damaged aircraft; he worked directly as senior engineer supporting repairs on the A-10 Warthog, C-130 Hercules, and the T-37 jet trainer. He later worked with local facilities engineering also. Rob was passionate about his work and loved working alongside cutting-edge aerospace technology.
In Rob's personal life, he had a passion for all things automotive. His knowledge, understanding and passion for automotive design and engineering was virtually unmatched. He loved working on, repairing and modifying cars, both old and new. From an early age, he was known to always have a project car to work on, restore or modify. He was known to have often said, "Cars are my therapy." It brought him much joy in his personal life. It was a passion he kept until his dying day.
Above all, Rob loved his family. He was a dedicated husband and father, constantly helping, serving and doing everything in his power to help those that he loved and cared for, especially his loving wife he adored.
All those who remember Rob know someone that was truly kind, accepting, open and selfless. He was known to go out of his way for others, even when times were tough. He always had a smile on his face, loved to laugh and play; he was often the life of the party. Rob was also known for his candor. He would always say how he truly felt or thought; no secrets of substance ever existed between Rob and anyone he knew.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Tracy; his sons, Ethan and Cody; and sons he loved as his own , Camren and Brandon; his mother and father, Clarence Robert and Florence Wilson Moran; his brother, Michael; his four sisters, Christine, Mary, Alicia and Michelle and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 7th at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, located at 646 East 800 North in Orem, UT from 5-9pm.
Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ meetinghouse located at 810 East 600 North in Orem, Utah on Saturday, February 8th beginning at 12pm with a viewing prior to funeral services from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.walkersanderson.com
