Robert "Bob" Linton Wright of Orem, age 95, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019. Bob was comforted by his three children, David Wright, Barbara Jean Baker, and Doug Wright, and other family members at the Summerfield Retirement Community at the time of his passing.
Bob was born in Ogden, Utah on October 29, 1923 to parents Myrtle Hansen Wright and Linton Robert Wright. Bob met and married his eternal companion, Beverly Brunson of Cedar City, UT in 1951. They were married in the St. George LDS Temple. They spent the early years of their marriage in Cedar City, before moving to Milford, UT where they raised their three children. They moved to Orem, UT in 1980 and resided in their home, which was an anchor for their family, for nearly 37 years. Bob had a long career with the Union Pacific Railroad from 1946 until 1985, when he retired after nearly 39 years of loyal service.
Bob lived a life devoted to public service, starting with his enlistment in the Navy in 1943 where he served as a Signalman during WWII. He continued his passion for public service holding various church, community and political positions, including his final campaign to become Mayor of Orem, just 5 years ago at age 90. Bob was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many Ward and Stake positions. He particularly enjoyed working in the Scouting program, serving as a Temple worker, and performing with various Ward and Stake Choirs.
Bob was the rock and devoted Patriarch of his family and is survived by his younger brother Darrell (Carol) Wright of Silverado, CA; son David Steven (Mary Ann) Wright of Gilbert, AZ; daughter Barbara Jean (Ronald) Baker of Payson, UT; son Douglas Wayne (Julie) Wright of Orem, UT; 8 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, and 40 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Myrtle Hansen Wright and Linton Robert Wright; his beloved wife Beverly Brunson Wright; brother Eugene Wallace Wright; two sons from a previous marriage, Robert Steven Wright and Larry Douglas Wright.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 17th from 6-8PM at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N., Orem and also on Friday, January 18th from 9:30-10:30AM at the LDS Church, 865 W. 1000 N., Orem. Bob's life will be celebrated at a funeral service on Friday, January 18th at 11AM at the LDS Church, 865 W. 1000 N., Orem. A graveside ceremony will take place at the Cedar City Cemetery (685 N. Main Street, Cedar City) on Saturday, January 19th at 1PM. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 72.
