Obituary

Ronald Dale Bingham 1936 - 2017 Ronald Dale Bingham was born on January 27, 1936, in Ogden, Utah. He passed from this life on July 3, 2017. Ron was the second child of Delos and Marcia Slater Bingham. He was blessed to have five adoring sisters. He grew up in Marriott, Utah, and spoke fondly of his childhood and the time he shared with his tight-knit extended family - including the annual family camping trip to Grey's River, Wyoming, where the fish were always plentiful. He graduated from Weber High School in 1954, then later from Weber State College and Utah State University. He served an LDS mission to New Zealand, and was in the Air Force Re-serves. On March 18, 1960, he married the love of his life, Marjean Thomas, in the Salt Lake Temple. Ron earned his master's and doctorate degrees in guidance and counseling from Penn State University in 1970. Ron and Marjean are blessed with four daughters: Leslie (who only lived a few days), Ronette, Melanie, and Marci. After receiving his PhD from Penn State, Ron joined the BYU faculty, where he happily worked for the next 32 years. He served in the area of counseling and guidance, and was chair of the Educational Psychology Department for 15 years. He was active in state and national professional associations, and was honored with prestigious awards. He served on the LDS Church Military Relations Committee. He was president of the Provo City School Board for many years. Although he was successful in his career, Ron's greatest joy was building relationships with his family and serving in his church. His service included several bishoprics and high councils. He was bishop of the Provo 16th Ward in the 1970s, a calling he truly loved. He also enjoyed working with youth groups and serving as ward organist. He had a strong testimony of the gospel that never wavered and that guided him throughout his life. His daughters remember a fun, easy-going, and hard-working dad - someone who could fix and build anything and have a good time doing it. Family vacations highlighted his life, especially annual trips to Lake Powell. He and Marjean also travelled throughout the world. After retirement, they bought a family cabin in Oakley, Utah; that became Ron's favorite place on earth. Ron is survived by his wife, Marjean (Orem), daughters and sons-in-law Ronette & Rick Mecham (Draper), Melanie & Patrick Kilbourne (Draper), and Marci & Dan Lloyd (Highland). He has 10 grandchildren: Rachel & Ryan Whitaker; Mckell & Aaron Farrell; Landon & Kristina Mecham; Lexi & Anthony Miller; Matthew, Jackson, and Slater Lloyd; and Kameron, Kaitlin, and Parker Kilbourne. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Adelyn and Eleanor, and his sisters and their spouses, Jean & Allen Godfrey, Shirley & Darrell Hart, Anita & Roger Hurst, and Marilyn Priest, as well as loving in-laws, Nadine & John Matis, Karen & Duane LeSueur, Glenna Leatherow, Dave & Kathi Thomas, and Doug and Barbara Thomas, and many nieces, and nephews, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delos & Marcia Bingham, parents-in-law, Glen & Norma Thomas, his daughter Leslie, and his sister Diane Bingham. The family wishes to express their appreciation for excellent care provided by Bel Aire Assisted Living Memory Care, Encompass Home Health Care, and Comfort WoRX Hospice. They are also grateful for many hours of service provided by their ward family. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 11, 2017, 12:00 p.m. in the North Ridge Stake, 1660 North 200 West, Orem. Family and friends may visit Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, or Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Coalville City Cemetery.
