Obituary

Ruth Hunter Burton

July 11, 1932 -October 18, 2024

Our loving Mother and Grandmother Ruth Mary Holt Hunter Burton, age 92, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, in Highland, Utah.

Ruth was born on July 11, 1932, in Oakley, Idaho to Ivan Willey Holt and Ruth Clarissa Parry. Ruth was the sixth of eight children. Ruth was raised in Oakley on a farm and attended school there. She had a wonderful childhood being raised in Oakley and described her growing up years as idyllic. Ruth has told many people she was an "Idaho Farm Girl". Ruth had a great sense of humor and was known for her lively personality.

On July 6, 1950, Ruth married Quentin Farr Hunter in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was the love of her life. They were blessed with four children: Reid, Logan, Geraldine and Jeanette. Ruth and Quentin lived in Idaho, Utah and California with their family where Quentin was a schoolteacher and administrator.

Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including Relief Society President, Young Women's President, Ward and Stake Primary President and Temple Ordinance worker.

Being a wife and mother was always Ruth's greatest joy in life. When grandchildren and great--grandchildren came along it was an added blessing that brought her much happiness.

Ruth and Quentin served in the Philippines Manila Mission. On the way home from their mission Quentin passed away on May 17, 1992, in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. Mom was devastated by the sudden loss of her dear husband.

Ruth was fortunate to be introduced to Marshall Burton, who was himself a recent widower, by a friend. They fell in love and were married in 1993. Marshall had seven children of his own, so they became a large blended happy family with 11 children and many grandchildren. Ruth and Marshall were able to serve a CES Mission in Russia in 1994. Two years later they served another CES Mission at BYU Hawaii.

Mom had a strong and unwavering testimony of her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She spent her whole life serving Him and others. We as her family take great comfort in knowing that Christ broke the bands of death, that we will all be resurrected, and that we each have an opportunity to live with Him and our Heavenly Father again.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Ruth Holt, her siblings, Wilson, Roberta, Effie Lyn, Edna, Ivan Karl, Jane, her first husband Quentin F. Hunter, her second husband Marshall T. Burton, daughter-in-law Darlene Burton.

She is survived by her children Reid (Glenna) Hunter, Logan (Diane) Hunter, Geraldine (Shawn) Cook, Jeanette (Robert) Keate, David (DeDe) Burton, Steven (Valerie) Burton, John (Betty) Burton, Mark Burton, Julie Ann Curtis, Mary (Glade) Christensen, Kathleen (Todd) Bramall, sister Nancy Olsen, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mom, we will always keep you in our hearts. We will cherish the sweet memories you gave us and consider ourselves blessed to have had you in our lives.
