Ruth Slack Graff passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born February 18, 1932, in Toquerville, Utah, the sixth of eight children of Kenneth Edwin Slack and Louise Thurston Slack.
While growing up, she spent many wonderful hours exploring the hills and orchards surrounding the family home, and swimming in the local swimming hole, “The Cradle.” Ruth was very talented and enjoyed playing the piano, playing in many recitals in Southern Utah and often getting out of doing the dishes by offering to practice instead.
Ruth was valedictorian of her high school graduation class, and received a full ride scholarship, which she turned down, to marry a returned Army Veteran, Kenyon Elmer Graff, when she was 18 years old.
Ken and Ruth made their home in Orem where they raised their five children. A favorite family activity was singing around the piano while ‘Mom’ played. Ruth also enjoyed sewing and made many beautiful dresses for her daughters. Trips to Southern Utah and many fishing and camping trips, were enjoyed by the family, as well.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ruth served as the ward organist and accompanied many musical numbers and choirs. She was a cub scout leader, Relief Society President, Primary President, and Stake Primary President. She also spent many years as a name extractor and doing family history work, but her favorite calling was as the Primary pianist, which she continued doing well into her 90s.
Ruth is survived by her five children and their spouses, Connie (Dennis) Bellows of Lehi, UT, Jim (Kay) of Alpine, UT, Emarene (Steve) Dixon of Holladay, UT, Jeannette (John) Walker of Tucson, AZ, and Mel (Kimberly) of Layton, UT.
A funeral in her honor will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel on 85 East 700 North, in Orem, Utah, at 11:00 am with a viewing from 10-10:45. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
