_______________________________________
Sarah Ewell Gardner of Murray, Utah and Midland, Michigan, passed away from cancer on April 20, 2021, having won her battle by showing us what it means to live graciously and courageously until the very end. Sarah was passionate, kind, and outspoken. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Sarah was born November 1, 1990 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The daughter of Darren and Lori Ewell of Murray, Utah and the oldest of five children, Sarah was a natural-born leader who loved sharing her bright personality with everyone around her.
School provided many opportunities for Sarah's character to shine. As a student body officer, she created many fond memories for students and staff. As a fairy godmother in the production of Cinderella, she graced the stage with her personality and incredible voice. She graduated from Murray High and BYU-Idaho with a degree in English and a minor in Vocal Performance. After her education, she served a mission in Romania, spreading the gospel and serving the people. There she continued to develop her unconditional love for others while blessing the lives of all those who met her. On May 1, 2015, Sarah married Flint Gardner in the Salt Lake Temple with a love that could be felt by all and would last for eternity.
Sarah was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing's Sarcoma in May 2018 while pregnant with her second child. Sarah remained optimistic despite the grim prognosis, determined to continue to live the life she loved. Juggling cancer treatments with two young children was no easy feat, but she still found time to document her journey through social media, spreading her cheer and optimism to many others. Despite the hardship Sarah personally faced with cancer, including losing her leg, she sought every opportunity to help others who were facing similar situations. Living with cancer changed her but not all changes were for the worst. In many ways she had always lived for others; this gave Sarah permission to live for herself.
She believed in the power of positive thinking and adopted many affirmations and mantras. She was often heard saying, "I can do hard things" and to "choose to do the things today that my future self will thank me for." She lived everyday like it was not her last, but the beginning of the rest of her life.
Sarah is survived by her husband Flint Gardner of Midland, Michigan and children Atlas (age 4) and Everest (age 2), her parents Darren and Lori Tindall Ewell, and her siblings Adam, Hyrum, Abigail Whitehead (Ethan), and Noah. She is also survived by her grandmothers Sharlene Ewell and Betty Tindall, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandfathers James Henry Tindall and Gary McClellan Ewell and friends she came to know through her treatment who also faced cancer valiantly.
She will be fondly remembered as a devoted mother and friend, an incredible vocalist, accomplished cook and health food junkie, social media influencer in the truest sense, and an advocate and friend to everyone she met.
Funeral services will be held through the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home. The viewing will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 646 East 800 North in Orem, Utah.
