Obituary

There is a time and a season under heaven, and our dear wife, mom, grandma, sister & friend lived beyond her favorite season of fall, after open-heart surgery, only to have her mind and body make the decision to leave this earth to join her beloved son Devin, and adored mom and dad in heaven in the spring. Although she always believed she should have been born a century earlier, she couldn't have been happier to become Milton Grant & Mildred Fry Johnson's firstborn on a snowy winter day, January 4, 1943. Our "Sarney," as she was lovingly called, spent the first 14 years of her life in Provo, active in the Damilo's marching group, and made lifelong friends there. Being a big sister to 4 new siblings, Donna Dexter (Wayne), Fred Johnson (Lorraine), Debbie Sorensen (Dix), and Gay Young (Russell), the Johnson family moved to a new and bigger home in Orem, where she welcomed her second brother, Tracy Johnson (Jackie). Their new home provided more space for the family to roam and at an early age, Shar was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved her Savior. She started 9th grade at Lincoln Jr. High School, where she continued making lifelong friends, something that was a big priority to her throughout her life. She was an Orem " Golden" Tiger and moved on to become a BYU cougar. She married Russell Jobst living in Florida & California and later divorced. Shar began her REAL LIFE adventures in Fairbanks, Alaska as an airline stewardess. Things changed to high adventure when she met her handsome and future husband, Craig Cordes there! Together the 2 left the frozen tundra of Alaska for Utah, where they married & eventually made their lifelong home. Shar was blessed with 3 amazing sons, Derek, Devin & Damin, who instantly became the center of her life, and her protective "mama bear" attitude of them was legendary. The entire Cordes family loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting with family and friends. She became her son's cheerleader when Craig began coaching their boys in football and baseball, which gave an added dimension to their life. There were many loves in Shar's life, from early on she was an avid reader, and would stay up till all hours reading by flashlight if necessary, while her bed partner (sister Donna) slept like a baby. Her big thrill of turning 16 was getting her driver's license, which allowed her to not only finally drive legally but to allow her sidekick Donna to drive their family's Ford convertible. Shar had a very close & special relationship with her father's mother, "Ma Johnson," and was so happy she was now able to take her to do her shopping, and occasionally stay overnight. She was artistic, and loved to tole paint on anything she could get her hands on, and, even though her boys didn't appreciate it at the time, she made one of everything for each of them, their future wives, and many friends. She loved music and "rockin' out," and most recently, her newfound love of politics & Fox News! A highlight of Shar's life was spending 3 glorious weeks with her mom, dad, and siblings in Europe, visiting the homeland of 2 of her grandparents before they immigrated to America. She enjoyed visiting Craig's family in Michigan and had a very special bond with his brothers, Kurt, Carl & Keith. Her annual trips with her mom, sisters, & sisters-in-law every Christmas to shop & stay the weekend were epic! The heartbreak in her life was losing her adored, and middle son Devin in a tragic highway accident. Time never lessened the pain and the loss of her sweet "pan face," and forever changed her life. After 14 years, we're positive their reunion was GLORIOUS! Shar possessed a spirit of contentment. She had a generous heart and enjoyed serving and giving of herself. She found immeasurable joy & peace, most especially in her yard & patio, where she worked & entertained her family and friends. Her raised rock flower bed in her front yard, created by her son Devin for a Mother's Day gift brought untold joy to her heart and such a cherished memory of his love for her. She has loved where she lives, with incredible loving neighbors and friends who she was honored to serve as their Relief Society President, and who in turn, have blessed her life with selfless love and tireless service, (you know who you are), especially over the past few years through her many health challenges. Our family cannot thank you ALL enough! Craig & Shar so enjoyed their many road trips to visit their son Derek, his wife Michelle & family in Colorado, most recently attending the high school graduation of their only granddaughter Alexa. Shar was especially thrilled that her son Damin has found the love of his life Amberdee, and has finally been blessed with another daughter she never had, and this time one that lived close by who has helped her through her day to day health challenges she has faced recently, together with Shar's youngest adorable granddaughters, Averie & Kii, that spent hours joyfully serving to Shar's every need. Shar and her family had a very close bond with her parents, siblings, nieces & nephews, spending every holiday together, vacationing, annual deer hunts, weekend bbq's, and special getaways to St George. The latest annual sibling trip to St G in February was absolutely fabulous & made forever memories! All of her many getaways with her beautiful family were a sacred and happy event for both Craig and Shar! Shar is survived by her husband Craig of Orem, son, Derek (Michelle) of Colorado, children Alexa, Brock & Davin; son Damin (Amberdee) of Orem, children, Averie, KateLynn, Kolton and Kiisley Children of Devin & Laura Vogt, Jordan & Brady Aforementioned Johnson siblings, Kurt Cordes, (Keri Ann), Carl Cordes, (Pete) And, many loving nieces & nephews Preceded in death: Father, Milton G Johnson Mother, Mildred Fry Johnson Son, Devin Cordes Mother-in-Law, Eliza Lou Cordes Father-in-law, Carl Cordes Brother-in-law, Keith Cordes In our hearts you will live forever!
