IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon Lynn
Fitch
February 17, 1938 – May 23, 2022
SHARON LYNN POTTER FITCH
February 17, 1938 - May 23, 2022
Sharon Lynn Potter Fitch passed away peacefully on May 23, 2022, from natural causes incident with age. Hers was a remarkable life filled with love for her family, the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and generous service to others.
Sharon was born on February 17, 1938, in Martinez, California to Gardner Godfrey Potter and Chloe Andersen. She was the third child with two older brothers Gardner and Eugene. Later came two sisters, Thelma LaRay and Carol Ann. She also had three half siblings, Linda Capato, Marie Brown, and David Silva. Her love for them was unconditional, and she always kept in touch with their lives.
In 1952, she was attending Mendocino Union High School in California and met James Edward Fitch who was a senior in the same high school. They began dating. After James graduated, Jim (as she called him) enlisted in the U.S. Navy. They wrote while he was in boot camp and dated every time he came home. In 1954, he came home on leave and brought her an engagement ring. He then left for the east coast until his next leave that November. She was only in 10th grade and 16 years old when they married in Fort Bragg, California on November 23, 1954. They were later sealed together for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple November 24, 1962. They would celebrate 66 years of marriage until her beloved Jim passed away April 1, 2021.
Sharon and Jim's family began in California where Jim was stationed in the navy. Three little girls were born: Jeanee Renee born in 1955 (Steven Stewart); Sherry Denise born in 1956 (Thomas Barrett); and Melody Mae born in 1957 (Dwayne Dyer). The girls were close in age and greatly loved by their mom and dad. In I965, a beloved son, James Orville came into the family and passed away in 1974.
Sharon was a noble spirit with many wonderful attributes. Over the years, she served others through the foster care program and raising other children from within her family. Sean Festag (Kim) came to Sharon and Jim's home in 1974 when he was 7 years old and remains a part of their family. Sharon was an extremely hard worker. She loved to sew, loved music, made the best chocolate cake and loved to help anyone that needed help. She served in many callings in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She placed great value and importance on her faith and her Savior, Jesus Christ. Sharon served with her Jim in the Scotland Edinburgh Mission from 1998-2000. They served another mission in the Russia Rostov Mission during which they were sent to the Ireland Mission from 2003-2005.
Another one of her greatest blessings in her life was being a grandmother. She loved all her grandchildren. Ryan Peterson (Marianne), Cara Dyer (deceased), Dustin Barrett (Julia), Sharee Ferguson (Chad), Courtney Anderson (Nicholas), Amanda Barrett-Brough (Adam), Kassi Pope (Barry), Dallin Dyer (Megan), Devin Dyer (Callan), Chelsea Roberts (Justin), Jonathan Dyer (Lau). Her grandchildren have blessed her with 30 great grandchildren. All will miss her amazing spirit and love for them.
A celebration of her remarkable life will be held at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home 85 East 300 South, Provo, Utah, Tuesday, May 31st at 10:00 am. Burial will be at the Provo City Cemetery following her service.
