Shirley Dean Allred was born in Rexbuirg, Idaho on November 1,1925. She passed away quietly and painlessly on August 22, 2020, nearing the age of 95. When Shirley was in 4th grade, her family relocated to Ephraim, Utah; where she sat behind her future husband, Robert H. Allred, in school.
Shirley came from a musical family, and learned to play the cello. She attended Utah State University on a musical scholarship; and was invited to play with the Faculty Orchestra. She was a charter member of Utah Valley Symphony and played with them for nearly 60 years. She also played with the American Fork Symphony Orchestra for a number of years.
Shirley's husband loved travel and adventure. Shirley accompanied him on many an adventure - trips to Lake Powell, a visit to Russia, China, New Zealand, Israel, Mexico, Canada, and across the United States.
Shirley was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many callings and organizations within the Church. She and Bob served as temple workers at both the Provo, and the Mount Timpanogos temples for better than 15 years. Besides her love for her children and (23) grandchildren, Shirley loved to create beautiful quilts and wall hangings. All of her posterity have Grandma Quilts!
Shirley's family is grateful to Covington Senior Living Center for the tender care Shirley received from them. She was a favorite among the other residents, often singing to them, or dancing with them. She had a smile and a kind word for everyone, and let all around her know she loved them.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Allred, her parents, Harry and Gladys Dean, a sister, Glenna Blackham, a brother, Gordon Dean, and a grandson, Jaxon Allred. She is survived by her children: Art Allred (Julie), Dean Allred, Carmae Bailey (Max), Charlene Edwards (Rick), Paulette Ballantyne (Brett).
