Obituary

Shirley D. Hansen went back to the arms of her loving Savior on April 15, 2021. Joining her parents and those who welcome home. Shirley D. Hansen was born June 9, 1947 to Rinald and Helen Doering, the middle child between Dianna and Barbara. Their small town of Gridley, CA was a haven and a hindrance where everyone knew you and all your business. She graduated and went to college at Butte College where she met her future husband James Hansen. They were married in 1968 in the LA Temple with a reception at her parents house by the rose arbor she loved. James joined the army and she began her role as a military wife. They ended up in Arlington, VA, Paradise, CA, Rein Mien AFB, GER, Ft Benning, GA. And bore 5 children: Linda, Dan, Tabitha (dec), Jonathan (dec), and Peter. James left the army and they moved close to Jim's family in Orem, UT where they stayed for many years. After Linda and Dan graduated, Jim, Shirley and Pete moved to Mesa, AZ for many years and then returned to Orem, UT (just one block from their previous residence), Where they remained until today. She had a love for plants and could keep them alive from move to move. Here favorite flowers were Carnations and Sunflowers. She was constantly surrounded by the bright colors of the material she collected for quilts. Throughout her church career she served in the Relief Society, genealogy, and enjoyed doing her ministry in the ward. She was heavily into family research and genealogy, finding old photos and letters and compiling the history for others. She was intrical in furthering much of the Doering family tree. She enjoyed inputting names in Ancestry of herself and others. She made sure that everyone who needed a copy of the history had it. She showed her love to family and friends by creating beautiful quilts and hangings. Every reunion, every wedding, and every graduation there seemed to be a quilt gifted with love from her. And when the pandemic hit, she started making masks as well (often with the recipient's favorite character or passion) in mind. She was the seamstress that stitched us all together. May her memory be for a blessing. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Timpanogos Regional Hospital who gave Shirley exceptional care during her stay. Shirley is survived by her husband James Earl, her Daughter Linda Sonersen (Elisabeth), son Dan (Christy) Hansen, and Pete (Ranee) Hansen and sisters Dianna (Bill) Jolley and Barbara (Rich) Gustafson and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 children Jonathan and Tabitha. LDS Church service will be April 19th at 10 am at the LDS church bldg at 590 N 900 W, Orem, UT. With a Luncheon/ Memorial after at the Golding Family Residence. Masks required. We ask if you are attending either to bring a quilt wall hanging or whatever creation Shirley may have made so that we can drape them on the pews in front you (to maintain social distance). Stitches of Love A Poem to Honor Shirley Hansen A life bound together by stitches of love The beauty she gives us, now comes from above. Her love for us all, still continues to shine In each quilt that we hug and each memory of time. We all have fond pieces of sewing, from her... Fabric reminders of what life is for. There's joy in each piece, for our hearts and minds In the colorful blocks and the ties that bind. The backing she gave us, in all we have done speaks love for her family, faith, friends and fun! And now, we've a duty, to carry on sewing, to honor her legacy, keeping it going. May her stitches of love, ever hold us together. May the works she has made warm our hearts forever. May we ever give beauty, treasured and rare; Inspired by her and all that she shared. Written with love by Rānee Hansen 4/15/21
