Steve was born on February 5, 1970, in Granger, Utah, to Stephen Morris Bailey and Helen Louise Farnworth. He passed away on June 12, 2024, at his home in Lehi, Utah, surrounded by his beautiful wife (his words), his children, a good friend, and other family members. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Michelle (Shelly) and his most favorite father-in-law ever, Donnie Ray Dunn.
In 2012 Steve was diagnosed with Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a rare lung disease. Because of this disease, Steve developed COPD/emphysema and had to have a double lung transplant. On July 23, 2016, Steve received the beautiful gift of new lungs, thanks to an amazing organ donor. This donor gave Steve almost eight years of life, and during those years not one day went by without Steve expressing gratitude for his donor, someone who was a true angel. Steve fought a long battle with Alpha-1 and passed away peacefully at the end of that battle.
Despite growing up having one of the hardest childhoods we have ever heard of, Steve was able to overcome many obstacles and really become the most amazing man ever. Steve was one of a kind. A true gentleman in all ways. He was humble, selfless, generous, thoughtful, caring, loving, funny, hardworking, dedicated and an amazing father, husband, uncle, brother, son, and son-in-law. Honestly the list could go on forever, but you get the idea. He was truly just amazing.
Steve met his wife Merity in October 1995. Steve and Merity were married in April 1996. A fairy tale wedding turned into Steve's worst nightmare when Merity made it Disney themed. And we are talking about everything Disney! :) He hated all things Disney, yet he would take the kids to Disneyland because that is what the kids wanted. Or was it because that's what Merity wanted? We all know the answer to that.
Steve and Merity were married for 29 years and have two beautiful children: Savannah and Jake. They have since added Jake's beautiful partner Mylani to their family. They created something magical together and were able to spread so much happiness, sarcasm, and positivity to all around. But it is Steve's positivity and attitude that really affected those he is leaving behind.
Steve was a man dedicated to his wife and children first and foremost, and everyone knows that. Steve's warped sense of humor is one of the things we will miss the most. Steve always made sure that others' needs were met before his own and that his wife was always held on a pedestal. His favorite replies to her for most anything were "Yes dear, or why didn't I think of that", and the most favorite, "What are you doing out of the kitchen?" In fact, he used those so much, a friend gave him a button that says a few of these cherished replies.
Steve loved his children and his wife something fierce. He didn't have hobbies that didn't include his wife and kids. As his health declined, he was not able to get out much so playing video games with the kids became his prized hobby.
Steve worked very hard in his career and was able to work the last eight years at an amazing company, and for an even more amazing boss. He loved his coworkers and especially his team. They gave him so much pride. He worked up until the day he took his last breath. That is the kind of man Steve was.
Steve loved nature. His favorite spot to camp was in Lava Hot Springs next to the river. He found so much peace listening to the water flow. Steve loved meditating. He loved sharing the knowledge he had of Reiki and meditation to anyone who asked but would never push it on people.
Steve loved learning all he could about anything and everything and would spend hours and hours researching whatever subject it was at the time.
Steve loved and valued his friends. "True friends are always there no matter what," he would say.
Steve spent the last 8 years in constant pain. But you would never know . He never showed anyone how bad he hurt, or how much severe pain he was in. He would always tell you he was "never better" when asked how he was. He endured so much to be here with his family and to be able to provide a life for them that he never had growing up. He was an example of a true hero, a warrior fighting to the end.
Steve is leaving behind so many people who love, adore, respect, and admire him. He is leaving behind an impression and example that will never be forgotten. While our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing he is pain free, and was welcomed home by so many loved ones.
Steve's family would like to thank Valeo Home Health and Hospice Company for taking such good care of our Steve. We'd like to give special thanks to Annie and Lisa. There are no words.
We would also like to thank Mike and Macie from CNS for "getting" Steve and for understanding him 100%.
Much love to John Judd who would come weekly to visit Steve, and during his last hours sat beside and read to Steve. Steve kept asking him to read even if he was asleep and John kept reading.
Thank you to Geoff, Bri, and our kids who did all the little things during his last hours so I could stay by his side. I kept my promise. I never left your side.
Raul, we can never express our feelings of gratitude for the blessing you came over to give Steve at 11:30 at night.
Thank you to Walker Sanderson Funeral Home for caring for Steve. We are so grateful for the tender care he received.
Thank you to all the friends and family for the outpouring of love and support.
And thank you Noelle, for the beautiful venue that means the world to Steve. His happy place. His place of peace, and what a perfect place to celebrate and honor him.
A Celebration of Steve's life will be held on July 12th at 11:00am at the Big Willow Barn, 535 N. State Street in Lindon, UT 84042.
There will be a luncheon following the celebration of life. All are welcome. He wouldn't have it any other way.
Please carpool if possible and please dress comfortably. It will be hot. T-shirts and shorts are totally approved by Steve. "Due to the weather and limited space, we would kindly ask those who can, to consider not bringing little ones. We are so grateful to already know so many people who plan on attending, if you need to bring any child under the age of 5 you are still welcome to come, please just remain mindful of your little ones"
