Stephen Ray Olsen passed away at his home in Orem on Saturday, April 27, 2019.  He was born on March 23, 1952, in Provo UT, the third of five boys, to Allan Burns Olsen and Elva Jean Jones.   He attended schools in Utah, Wyoming, and Arizona.  He graduated as the valedictorian of Payson High School in 1970, then went to Brigham Young University, having been awarded the David O. McKay Presidential Scholarship.  He interrupted his education to fulfill a mission to Bolivia, then returned to school, where he met Suzanne Parkin.  They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 20,1974.   Steve continued studying while starting his family.  He graduated with a B.A. degree in Spanish and Mathematics, with a secondary teaching certificate, in 1975.  He received an M. Ed. degree in Community Education Administration in 1977, and then took his family to Hawthorne, NV, where he worked for Mineral County School District and Western Nevada Community College. Steve bravely took his growing family back to Utah to study law, again at BYU. He graduated in 1988 and passed the Utah State Bar Exam.  Shortly after completing law school he was hired to work in the BYU Financial Aid Office and then later for BYU Veterans and Military Services.  At the time of his death, he had worked for Brigham Young University for 31 years.  He has served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many capacities. He has a strong testimony of the gospel, and loves to study the scriptures and related historical works. Steve found joy in doing family history, beekeeping, reading international religious history, and spending time with his family.    He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Suzanne, as well as his seven children:  Connie Rohwer (Jeff), Lisa Ward (Ben), Jenny Richardson (Paul), Linda Olsen, Megan Olsen, Leslie Macfarlane (Greg), and Andrew Olsen (Susi).   He has six grandchildren:  Evan, David, Nathan, John, Jessica, and Rachel.   A viewing will be held Sunday, May 5th, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N., Orem.  A second viewing will be held Monday, May 6th, from 10 am to 11:45 am at the Windsor 1st Ward building, 1505 N. 130 E., Orem.  A memorial service will follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BYU Scholarships through ldsphilanthropies.org.
