IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven Frank
Briggs
September 12, 1949 – September 9, 2023
Steven Frank Briggs was born to Stanley and Barbara Ann Black Briggs September 12, 1949 in Lake Forest, Illinois. He was baptized October 30, 1949 in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest. He was the middle child of three boys, Tom, Steven, and Alan. His dad was a pipe fitter and his mom was a stay at home mom. He was the quiet son, so quiet his mom often didn't know he was there.
Steven grew up in nearby Mundelein. One of the books he kept from Kindergarten is My Bible Leaflet. He was devoted to God and Jesus Christ from the get-go. Like many of us, he did need a gentle reminder to stay active in Church School. As written in his book by his Sunday School teacher, Dear Steven, We miss you at Church School. Hope you will be back soon. Miss Rayner. It worked! He was active in Church serving the Lord and others his entire life. He served as an Usher for eleven years at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Provo, Utah.
Steven attended the public schools in Mundelein, graduating from Mundelein High School June 7, 1968. He served in the United States Navy on active duty from October 2, 1969 through September 4, 1973 aboard the USS St. Louis (LKA-116) as a Gunner's Mate and obtained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960). He completed his Reserve obligation on October 1, 1975.
Steven always loved the great outdoors, especially in Idaho and Utah in particular. He also loved to learn and attended the University of Utah, Utah Community College, California State University, Hayward, and Utah State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management. He went on to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the U.S. Forest Service. He worked in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility throughout his career of 40+ years.
Steven married Jacqueline Cozette Parry on June 8, 1991. Family life and his career became a challenge when symptoms of Parkinson's Disease started in 2007. In 2009, Steven was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. In addition, Steven had scoliosis, and osteo-arthritis and many surgeries. Jacqueline supported him as he battled the disease, but sadly passed away in 2012. Steven retired from the Forest Service in 2014. His philosophy was that a person has Parkinson's Disease, but the Disease doesn't have them. He was determined to always have a positive attitude and maintain a great sense of humor. He wrote the book "Boulders – Life with Parkinson's Disease" to inspire all to face boulders in life with courage and a smile.
Steven met, and a short while later married Kristine Louise Olsen on August 18, 2018. They lived at the same assisted living facility, Cottonwood Creek, in the Murray-Holladay area. He continued the battle with Parkinson's and Kristy battled Multiple Sclerosis courageously and with continued great faith, serving and helping others.
Steven passed on to his heavenly home August 9, 2023. He is survived by his wife Kristine, brothers Tom and Alan, his daughter Jessica, and stepchildren Denise and Michael.
