Obituary

On November 17, 1967, Steven Angus Roy was born where golf was, St. Andrews, Scotland. He was welcomed that day by loving parents Albert and Aileen Roy. During the early hours of July 14, 2024, he returned to his heavenly home surrounded by the love of his wife and children in Provo, Utah.

Steve grew up as the second oldest of four sons in a little town outside Glasgow, Scotland, named Bishopbriggs. While attending Strathclyde University in Glasgow, he developed a love and talent for volleyball. One of his favorite memories was representing Scotland on a national team touring Europe.

At age 19, he traded his volleyball for a name tag and headed to Los Angeles, where he shared with others his love for the Lord, as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After a short time back in his homeland, he accepted a scholarship at Brigham Young University in Provo, where he taught at the Missionary Training Center, was valedictorian, and received a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Organizational Behavior.

His most important success at BYU was courting and marrying the love of his life, Kimberly Ann Seamons. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on October 1, 1992.

After settling into their first small apartment in Provo, Steve took on three jobs while finishing his schooling. Till the day he passed away, this man was never afraid of hard work—he was anxiously engaged professionally and otherwise, even through his years of medical challenges.

Two years into marriage, along came a bouncing baby boy named Taylor, followed soon after by Jared.

Job opportunities then took them to the Bay Area in California and to Linlithgow, Scotland, 20 minutes from his home village. Living within walking distance of Steve's parents and grandparents was a treasured blessing. After a few more years in California, and with daughter McKenna on the way, the family moved back to Kimberly's hometown of Provo, where they have remained.

Steve was a builder of people and organizations who would dive enthusiastically into research and development projects. His clients ranged from Intel to USTAR (the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative), and he also served on non-profit boards including the Utah Valley Chamber. A professional highlight was his time working at Utah Valley University under President Matthew Holland. Deep and lasting friendships—whether from the MTC, California, or his current team—were a hallmark of his life.

Quick witted and charismatic, Steve enjoyed a challenge, including Tough Mudder and Spartan races. He loved cars, Formula One, leatherwork, writing, learning, and reading—a book or magazine was usually within reach. With his family, he loved shooting, four wheeling, and traveling.

One of Steve's cherished memories was serving as bishop to young single adults on BYU campus. He continued to love and support them years after being released. When serving in the nursery, he became known as the baby whisperer.

Overarching all of Steve's talents and activities was his love for the Savior and gospel. His life decisions were based on that focus.

Steve's loved ones here on earth include his wife Kimberly, sons Taylor (Taylor) and Jared (Hailey), and daughter McKenna (Brady) Stoker, his parents Albert and Aileen Roy, parents in law David and Ann Seamons, his brothers, several siblings in law, and many nieces and nephews (he loved his "littles"), all of whom love and will miss him deeply.

We love you Dad, Steve, Stevie, Steven. Forever and always, until we meet again!

Diagnosed with prostate cancer in the fall of 2019, Steve fought tirelessly till the end, including by participating in multiple studies and cancer trials, with a desire to benefit others. We thank the members of his medical team, including Dr. Agarwal, Dr. Brogan, and Julia Batten, APRN—you blessed our lives. In lieu of flowers, please consider doing one of the following:
