Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Terrence 'Terry' Wayne Tate, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who departed this world peacefully on August 1, 2024 at the age of 75.

Terry was born on October 19, 1948 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to the late Harry and Hazel Tate. From a young age he developed a sense of adventure and love of music. He had the opportunity to see many of his favorite bands and travel to many countries as often as possible. Terry could often be found relaxing and listening to his very favorite band, The Beatles. He loved traveling and was frequently making plans and having the best vacations with his wife, Virginia.

As a man of faith, he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will be remembered for his warmth and kindness he showed everyone he met. Terry loved meeting new people and hearing their stories as well as catching up with old friends. He never met a stranger. Every person was just a friend he hadn't met yet.

Terry's adventurous spirit led him to a love of seeing new places. He was happiest planning the next journey, eager to explore new cultures and meet new friends. He was passionate about all things in the sky, flying and airplanes. He loved going to airshows and sharing his love of airplanes with his family, the airshow in Reno has always been one of his favorites.

He had a fulfilling career surrounding one of his other loves: automobiles. Terry's obsession for vehicles and love of talking about them gave him a career he excelled at. Buying and selling cars was his gift. After retiring from 30 years in the industry, he would still enjoy watching the Meecham Auto Auction on TV just for fun.

In addition to his many passions, Terry was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Virginia Love McVea Tate; their five children, Aaron Tate (Maureen), April Tate-McKinnie (Erik), Adam Tate, Paul Smith (Carolin) and Brian Smith; and seven grandchildren, who he loved very much. Terry had three siblings, Linda Olson, Kent Tate and Wendy Tate. He loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed being an uncle. Terry cherished every moment he got to spend with his family and his legacy of love will continue through them.

As we say goodbye to Terry, we remember a man who lived his life as full as possible: a lover of music, flying enthusiast, a traveler at heart and loving husband and father. He leaves behind a fullness in our hearts from knowing him that will resonate in our lives forever. Rest in peace, dear Terry. You will be missed.
