Obituary

Thomas Errol Ogden passed away peacefully late on 27 December 2018 in Orem, UT, after a wonderful Christmas season with extended family, completing his mission here on earth at the young age of 68.  He succumbed due to complications incident to ALS—Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born 20 June 1950 in Oakland, CA, the son of Betty Ruelene Greenwell and Joel Edward Ogden. Thomas grew up in Oakland, graduating from Skyline High School in 1968.  From 1969 to 1971, he served an honorable two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central German Mission headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany.  After that, he spent much of his life in Utah, attending BYU for two years and the University of Utah for two years.  At the U of U, Tom was the president of the "Green Barons" fraternity.  He met Linda in the single student ward.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Ottawa College.  He was sealed for eternity to Linda Brook Smith on 15 February 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple.  This year, 2019, will be their 45 th wedding anniversary.  They were married the day after Valentine's Day, and he always called her "Sweets". Tom's family was of great importance to him and brought joy and contentment into his life.  He was a devoted father to his children, Becky and Devon, and loved and truly appreciated all he learned from his children and grandchildren.  They had many fun outings together. He enjoyed spending time with them and extended family. We all cherished his cheerful and helpful attitude and contagious laughter. Tom was a staunch member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was an avid temple attender and constant minister in service to others. A serious student of the scriptures, he enjoyed discussing them with family and friends.  He held many callings in the service of his Lord and Savior: Gospel Doctrine Instructor, District High Councilor, Stake Missionary, Elder's Quorum Counselor, High Priest Group Leader and later instructor, Priesthood Pianist, Scoutmaster, Venture Coach, Priest Quorum Advisor, Stake Sunday School President, Ward Mission Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Stake Young Single Adult Leader with Linda, and Branch Second counselor for the Orchard Park Rehab Center.  Tom and Linda considered their time serving in the rehab center as their "mission" together. When he could no longer attend the temple, Tom indexed over 30,000 names for family history. During his career in the mortgage field, Tom helped many families arrange loans for housing.  He managed a tax preparation practice in Anchorage, Alaska for several years. Tom and Linda also prepared tax returns under their own company called Errol Brook Associates. Tom was a talented musician on the piano and guitar.  He loved singing in choirs and performing at family and church gatherings.  He was agile and loved to be physically active in many ways. Dancing with his sweetheart was always a memorable occasion.  Tom and Linda loved reading books together, especially the scriptures every morning. Preceded in death by his mother, Betty Ruelene Greenwell Ogden Woster; his step-father, Stanley Howe Woster Jr.; his father, Joel Edward Ogden, and all of his grandparents. Survived by his sweet wife and caretaker for the eight years of his illness, Linda Brook Smith.  Also survived by his dear daughter, Rebecca Lynn Carter (Jason) of Lehi, Utah, and their children:  Colby Douglas, Makenzie Lynn, Aubrey Rebecca, and Addison Grace; his loving son, Devon Thomas Ogden (Amanda) of Lehi, Utah and their children:  Landon, Kristian Devon, Adelyn Rae, Hadley Dawn, and Kyson Keith. He is treasured by all.
