Obituary

Thomas "Michael" Soper passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 in Orem, Utah at age 78. Mike was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 28, 1940. His parents were Carroll F. and Virginia S. Soper, who preceded him in death. He has one sister, Carolyn J. Hacking. Mike lived in Denver, Colorado and Visalia, California where he graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 1958. He went on to serve in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962. He then went served a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western States Mission/Denver, Colorado. He married Darlene Thatcher in 1966. They lived in Texas and he worked as a salvage deep sea diver and also drove truck. In 1973 they adopted a son Michael "Fletcher" Soper, who passed away in 2009. Mike and Darlene divorced and he married Linda King in 1980 in Splendora, TX. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 1, 1980 and resided in Orem, Utah. They had 2 daughters, Linda Michelle and Tiffany Marie. Mike also adopted Linda's son Christopher Loyd King and was sealed to him. Mike attended UTC in Provo, Utah and earned a degree in Electronic Technology. Mike and Linda divorced and he then married Barbara Collier in the Jordan River Temple on April 25, 1987. They had a son Colin James (CJ) and a daughter Jordan Kalleen. He was father to Barbara's two children, Ryan and Ashleigh. Mike and Barbara divorced in 2002 and he went to live with his son Fletcher in Ogden, Utah. Later he moved to Orem, Utah and had many happy times with his loving sister and 8 nieces and nephews. His daughter Jordan lovingly and patiently took care of him in his final years. Mike was a faithful member of the church and loved to do genealogy. He was a great fan of 40's and 50's music and loved Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass. He enjoyed watching Looney Tunes cartoons, especially Roadrunner and Taz. He was a great gardener and loved to collect mugs. He loved spending time with his family and always remembered their birthdays, sending a special card to each one of them. Mike is survived by his sister Carolyn J. Hacking, his cousin Thomas Aron Seymour, his children, 20 grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018, 1:00 p.m., Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem. Friends and family may visit prior to services from 12 - 12:45 p.m. at same location. Burial will be at the East Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Provo, Utah. Military rites to be performed by the American Legion Post 72.
