Obituary

Thomas Ralph Verbanatz was born in Detroit Michigan on March 27, 1933, to Peter and Marjorie. They moved to Butte Montana where he spent his childhood and ended up moving in his teen years to Orem Utah with his only sibling, Josephine, and her new husband Tom Adams. He was an excellent athlete in all sports and enjoyed a collegiate career as a football star for Brigham Young University where he graduated with a teaching degree and met his sweetheart, Dorothy Grace Olney. He was drafted by the Army and stationed in Germany playing football during his two years of service. Upon returning home, he married his California girl, Dorothy, on August 8 1959 in the Los Angeles Temple. They lived in Colton a few years and then settled in Rialto to raise their family. He taught at Colton High School for 40 years and coached many sports at the high school as well as the collegiate level for the University of Redlands and San Bernardino Valley College. He received a Masters of Education from Azusa Pacific University. He faithfully gave a life-time of service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings and was ordained a High Priest in the Melchizedek Priesthood. In his retirement years Tom and Dorothy moved to Orem Utah to live closer to family. He was a kind man with a sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him. Most importantly, he was a loving father and devoted husband who is now reunited with his dear Dorothy. He is survived by his three children (Pamela Moreno, Sandra Packham, and David Verbanatz) seven grandchildren and many family and friends who dearly loved him. Funeral Services will be Saturday July 27, 2019, 11:00 a.m., Cascade 7th Ward 400 East 400 North, Orem. Friends and family may visit prior to services at the church from 9:30 - 10:45 am.
