Obituary

Our beautiful, loving Mom, Grams, Aunt, Sister, Friend - Tilila Ma'utohi Lino, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a long struggle with lung cancer on Friday December 31, 2021. Tilila was born on March 21, 1954 in Tatakamotonga - Mu'a, Tonga. She often told the story of her birth, that it was a windy night in Tonga, almost hurricane-like. She was raised in Ha'akame, Tonga by her loving grandparents - Siosaia Mateaki and Hotaia Mu'amoholeva Mateaki. She always spoke with fondness and love when she would reminisce about her grandparents. At the age of 14, she made one of the hardest moves of her life as she flew to the United States to live with her parents - Mele Lili MateakiIongi and Viliami Iongi. She recalled with tears how she did not want to leave her grandparents but that her Grandpa Mateaki told her it's time to be with her parents, little brother and little sister, to work towards a better future here in America. She listened to her grandpa Mateaki and made the trip to Hawaii with her brother Mosese and sister Sala to be with their parents. She said she was blessed ever since. From Hawaii they moved to California. They lived in Pomona. Mom attended and graduated from Ganesha High School in Pomona, California. She soon met the love of her life shortly thereafter. On December 19, 1973 in Diamond Bar, California she married Sione Tamanika Lino from Lofanga & Niuatoputapu Tonga. He was living in Northern California at the time with his aunt Lavinia Fonua and cousins. He befriended one of Moms uncles and found his way south to Pomona - mom said, to find her. They made their home in Pomona where their oldest child was born. Moms parents moved from California to Utah. Mom and Dad followed them and moved to Utah in early 1975, they / we, have been here in Utah ever since. Tilila and Sione along with their baby daughter Pelenaise were sealed in the Provo Temple in 1975. Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served faithfully in many capacities throughout the years. Among her favorites was serving in Primary and the majority of the time as Ward Chorister. Mom loved to sing. She loved music. She had one of the most beautiful alto voices and could harmonize with anyone and make them feel like they could sing. Mom served faithfully and with happiness in the Provo Temple shortly after her eternal companion passed away in June 2004. She eagerly anticipated and looked forward to every Saturday to work in the Temple and every Tuesday for Stake Temple night. She served in the temple until September 2021. Mom was a happy, loving woman who loved and accepted all. She always liked to look her best. She loved being a mother and most especially, a grandmother or Grams as her grandkids would call her. She served her family right to the very end of her life. She loved each grandchild and made each one of them feel like they were her favorite. Thank you is not enough Mom for everything you have taught and instilled in us. You were and are, in every detail of our lives. We will hold on to that forever. God be with you dear Mom / Grams, until we meet again. Tilila is survived by her 7 children - Pelenaise (Sonatane) Lavemai, Viliami (Tava) Lino, Aita (Taani) Tuha, Olivia (Lopeti) Kaufusi, Tu'a Talamatangi Lino, Milika Tupou Lino, Timote (Siu'ivaha) Lino. 18 grandchildren - Aita Lino, Ofa Lino, Sione Lino Jr, Loloma Kaufusi, Tai Lino, Alama Lino, Tilila Lino, Tua Lino, Taani Tuha Jr, Finau Lino, Pelenaise Tuha, Jordan Lino, Kaia Talleur, Kenneth Tuha, Milika Kaufusi, Murray Lino, Olivia Lino, Jeffery Tuha. 2 sisters Sala (Okati) Lomu, Mele Lili (Nia) Toki and many nieces and nephews who love her.
