Uimaitua was born in Olosega, Manu'a on July 13, 1945 to Timali Poloai Tivao and Mesi Moegu. He graduated from the Church College of Hawaii(CCH) with a Bachelor of Science in History, a Masters in Education Administration and a PhD in Educational Psychology from Brigham Young University- Provo. While attending college, he met and married the love of his life, Lapataume Neria, on June 10, 1972. Together, they welcomed and raised five beautiful daughters who were his pride and joy throughout life. Uimaitua was a devoted father, an inspiring educator, and a humble servant of the Lord. He was known for his unforgettable smile, patience, uncanny wit and humor, gracious respect for others, and a flawless sense of style and class. He enjoyed tennis, rugby, basketball, good Samoan food, going to church, doing family history, watching BYU games, and listening to his grandchildren sing. He served with all his heart and loved his family more than anything in this world. Of all the accolades, degrees, and callings he held, being our Dad—our "Papa"—was his greatest accomplishment in life. Just like he dealt with all experiences that came his way, Uimaitua managed his physical challenges with strength and grace. With every aching pain, his smile never dimmed. With every discomfort, he never complained. As the days became harder, his faith never wavered. He endured to the very end, slipping away quietly and peacefully in the comfort of his home with his sweetheart by his side—just the way he wanted it. In the words of his favorite Frank Sinatra song, "I faced it all and I stood tall, and did it my way. The record shows I took the blows, and did it my way." In memory of a life so beautifully lived, a celebration in his honor will take place on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Provo Utah 1st (Tongan) Stake Center located at 1625 South Slate Canyon Road, Provo, UT 84606.
