Vern Leroy
Williams
December 29, 1929 – August 7, 2024
Vern LeRoy Williams, age 94, passed away quietly in the night on August 7th, 2024, in Orem, Utah. He was born on December 29, 1929 in Vineyard, Utah, youngest child to Vern LeRoy Williams and Lyle Elizabeth Robertson Williams. Preceded in death by his siblings: Arva Eggleston, Dorothy Farnsworth, Daryl Williams, Kenneth Williams, and his daughter Suzie Bailey.
LeRoy grew up on a farm in Vineyard Utah, where he learned to work hard. In 1948 he graduated from Lincoln High School, Provo Bench, Utah. He had a love for sports, especially baseball, basketball, and was a huge fan of BYU sports. After graduation; he served as a missionary in the Canada, Alberta mission. Then on September 24, 1952 he married Anita Jean Phillips in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly thereafter he served as a Military Policeman in Seoul, Korea near the end of the Korean war.
LeRoy and Anita was blessed with six beautiful children: Barbra Jean Evans (Mike Evans), Debra Mendenhall (Jeff Mendenhall), Thomas LeRoy Williams (Dian Williams), Carl Vern Williams (Steffanie Williams), Susanna Bailey (Brent Bailey), Jennifer Ann Peay (Todd Peay). They were also blessed with 24 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild to be born next month.
LeRoy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings such as: Elder quorum president, teacher, in the 70's, and a BYU Bishop. He and his wife also served 2 missions: Stake mission and a mission to Canada, Halifax mission. They also served as Temple workers in the Mount Timpanogos Temple for many years.
LeRoy served the residents of Orem as a Planning Commissioner and on City Council. He loved animals and gardening throughout his life and was generous to many neighbors with fruits and vegetables they grew in their garden.
He was loved and respected by all of his family and by those who knew him. He was a great man and will be missed by all.
A viewing to be held August 18, 2024, Sunday evening, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral home, located at 646 East 800 North Orem, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Monday August 19, 2024 at 11:00am at the church located at 95 North 600 West Orem, Utah; with a viewing held that morning from 9:30 - 10:30am.
Interment will follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 500 North 100 West in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where he will be laid to rest in the Williams family plot.
