IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Eileen
Ball
April 16, 1947 – December 14, 2025
Virginia Eileen Stewart Ball (Ginny) was born on April 16th, 1947, to Sumner Grant Stewart and Catherine Naomi Landis in Las Vegas as their first child. She was joined later by her siblings Sara, David, and Ruth. In her youth, Ginny was involved in barrel racing, pep rallies, and Girl Scouts. On September 11, 1967, Ginny married her sweetheart, John Price Ball, and was sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George temple.
As a family, they proceeded to live in Provo, Utah; Western and American Samoa; San Antonio, Texas; Seaside, California; Dhahran and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Orem, Utah. But wherever they lived, she always made it home. Throughout these moves, Ginny and John welcomed their children: Christine (Mike Hardy), Jeanette (James Allan), Julianne (Everett Hoffmann), Elizabeth (Gohar Nisar), Michael (Robin Lamm), Carolynn, Rachelle (Scott Sackett), and Annalisa (Nathan Burch).
Besides her family, the greatest love of her life was her Savior, Jesus Christ. Out of her many callings and years of church service, her favorites were spent in Primary and Young Women Camp. Together, Ginny and John served a mission in Mexico City, where they traveled the country helping administer the Perpetual Education Fund and upon return, loved serving as temple workers. She shared her testimony daily through word and action.
She earned her Bachelors in Child Development/Teacher Education from BYU ('69) and a Masters of Special Education with an emphasis on visually impaired children from the University of Utah ('01)--but she was true blue all the way. Education and continual learning were values she cultivated and encouraged in her children and grandchildren.
She loved her work with children in early intervention and special education through the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind. She was a passionate supporter of all of her children's activities-–Girl and Boy Scouts, PTA and community councils, all the events for orchestra, band, choir, drama, and sports. An avid camper, she raised her children to love that, too.
Later in life, she was fully involved in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP), serving as the chapter president for multiple years. After retirement, Ginny and John spent an adventurous year teaching English and traveling in China, and then globe-trotting to New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, and England. Three years ago, they moved into Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living, where she enjoyed her continued work with DUP, teaching lessons, and planning program events. She also served as the elected resident associate president for a year.
She has left behind many people whose lives she has touched deeply: husband, John and her 8 children, 32 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way who she's playing with right now. She leaves a legacy of service, friendship, and discipleship.
Her viewing is Thursday, December 18th, from 6:00-8:00 at the Walker-Sanderson Funeral Home: 646 E. 800 N., Orem, Utah. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 19th, at 11 am, at 365 S 900 E in Orem Utah with a viewing at the church from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Utah School for Deaf and Blind, Kids on the Move, or giving an extra gift at the Giving Machines (Mom's favorite Christmas gift).
