Virginia Dale Johnson Washburn, age 93, returned to her Father in Heaven on August 16, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Orem, Utah.
Virginia was born March 16, 1931 in Richfield, Utah, to Allan D. Johnson and Inez McClure Johnson. She was the 4th of 5 children. She grew up in Provo and Salt Lake City. She attended East High until her family moved to Orem. She graduated from BYHigh and attended Brigham Young University.
She was married to Paul D. Washburn in the Salt Lake Temple on September 27, 1950. They resided in Orem where they raised their 5 children. She and Paul moved to Pleasant Grove in 1989 and resided there until Paul's death in 1994. She then returned to Orem where she lived until her death.
Virginia was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she enjoyed serving as a outstanding teacher in the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's programs. She also served in Stake Primary and Young Women programs.
She served a mission with her husband to the California-Sacramento Mission; serving in Mount Shasta, California.
Virginia had a strong commitment to community service . She worked with the Utah County Republican Party, and belonged to several Women's Service Clubs including Olesca and Orem Women's Club. She served as a State Officer for the National Federated Women's Clubs of America. Through these clubs she was able to affect legislation, provide Christmas for patients at the State Hospital, provide art for the Scera Art Gallery and local schools, and raise funds for CARE and the Peace Corps.
Virginia loved nature in all it's varieties especially peace roses which she grew in all her gardens. She loved history. poetry, reading, and continued to follow current affairs throughout her life.
Family was her highest priority and she loved to gather together with extended family and stayed close to her nieces and nephews as well as her husbands family. She will be remembered as a wonderful grandmother who made every holiday special. We loved to gather at her home on Sunday nights for poppyseed cake, homemade ice cream, and the chance to bond with the cousins.
Virginia is survived by her children: Paul V ( Steffani), Kevin (Judith), Travis (Bill), John (Judi), and Emily. She has 15 grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two grandsons Kevin & Anthony Washburn, her parents and all of her siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 24, 2024 at the Cascade 3rd Ward Chapel
1051 East 200 North Orem Utah. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am. Funeral will be at 11:00 am.
Internment will be at the Orem City Cemetery 1520 North 800 East Orem, Utah
The family wishes to thank all those who showed Virginia such love and care during her final months . We especially want to thank Symbii Hospice nurses Beckie, Marleen, and Laly.
