Wallace Earl Allred passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his four children, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the age of 94. He is survived by a son, Kenneth (Beverly), and three daughters, Janet (Brigg) Steele, Nancy (Val) Hale, and Marilyn (David) Jenkins, 18 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild on the way.
Born on April 26, 1932, to Reid H. and Anna Elizabeth (Libbie) Allred, Wally spent his youth in Spring City, Utah, a small farming community filled with chores, animals, and lifelong friends. As a teenager, Wally excelled in a variety of sports, music, and academics. Following a year as studentbody president at Snow College, Wally was disappointed to learn that he would not be allowed to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of a moratorium on mission calls during the Korean War, so he enlisted in the Army and entered Officers’ Training School, receiving a commission as a Second Lieutenant. His military service included orders for Japan, where he served with the occupation and staging forces for Korea.
It was while on furlough that he married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Lou Norman, in the Manti Temple on June 12, 1953. His first child was born while he was in Japan. Following his return, Wally pursued his education and career, earning a bachelor’s degree, two master’s degrees, and a Ph.D.,working as a BY High School math teacher and principal, andlater as a professor on the main campus, retiring in 1992 after36 years at BYU. A devoted and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wally served in a variety of callings during his professional years, including over 20 years in bishoprics and stake presidencies.
Lifelong season ticket holders for BYU football and basketball, Wally and Bonnie were often spotted at a variety of other athletic events as well, supporting their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beyond athletic events, Wally and Bonnie filled their retirement years with culture (concerts and performances), travel (over 30 cruises, 120 countries, and 6 continents), and church service as temple ordinance workersand 12 years as senior missionaries in the SLC Family History Center and on Temple Square.
Although Wally was confined to his bed during the last two years of his life, his mind remained active and sharp, and he continued to enrich the lives of those around him through his cheerful nature and generous dispensing of wisdom. His advice and counsel were often sought by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, but he has no doubt been joyfully greeted by those who preceded him in death: his beloved wife, Bonnie, who passed away in 2019; his parents, four siblings, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 500 South 600 West, Orem. A viewing will be held from 9-10:30 that morning at the same location.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints general missionary fund in honor of their father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
