Wanda Sue Wood passed away at age 66. She was one of the kindest and positive people that you could ever meet, in spite of her many illnesses and physical pains she suffered over last years of her life. She died October 11, 2018 in Provo Utah. She was born in Salt Lake City Utah, to Joseph Theron Smith and Neva Harper Smith. She was the 5th child of 12 children. She attended School in Salt Lake and Graduated from East High. She attended Church College of Hawaii, now known as BYU Hawaii. She graduated in Elementary Education with a second degree in Special Education from BYU and later, received a Master's Degree from BYU. She served an LDS mission in Colorado, taught school in Wyoming and then taught in Alpine School District. She taught for over 30 years. She taught in Elementary School then taught Jr High, where she stayed for the rest of her teaching career. She had a unique way of teaching children with learning disabilities. She was an innovator and was ahead of her time. She always looked for ways to teach each child in the best possible way, making up new ways as she went along if something didn't work. She loved Jr High, because as she put it "You never get bored. No two days are the same." She met her husband, Donald Wood in an LDS singles Ward and they married July 15, 1977. He died December 20, 1997 leaving her with two young sons. Her children were her life and when they married she loved her daughters without reserve. She served as a Den Leader and in worked in Scouting in her LDS Ward. She also served as a Ward and Stake Camp director and camp cook for many years. At the time of her death, she was serving her 6th year as a full time LDS mission, as a Family History Missionary. She is survived by 9 siblings, two son's Jacob Wood and Eric Wood, her two daughter-in-law's Sarah and Mandy, and 7 grandchildren, Nicholas, Harper, Rachael, Charlotte, Alexa, Jaxon, and Sadie. She loved her children and grandchildren very much. She loved having them over to her home to "help her". Funeral Services will be Tuesday October 16, 2018 at the Sharon 1st Ward 641 S. 400 East, Orem. 11:00 am, with a viewing from 9:30 – 10:30 am, before the funeral. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home in Orem. She will be interned in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 N. 800 E., next to her husband Donald.
