Cowley
April 2, 1931 – October 12, 2024
William Horace Cowley, 93, of Orem, Utah passed away on October 11, 2024 at Covington Senior Living in Orem, Utah.
William (Bud) was born in Provo, Utah, on April 2, 1931, the first child to William Harold and Ida Cowley. He grew up in the Orem-Provo area. There he had a paper route where he delivered papers up Provo Canyon wearing out many bikes and tires. He graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1949, where he played in the band and participated in athletics.
One day while painting the home of his Father's business partner, he met Marilyn Brown, and thought that she was the cutest girl that he had ever seen. On June 26, 1952, William married Marilyn in the Manti, Utah Temple. She preceded him in death, and after nearly 10 years of separation, they are joyfully reunited. Soon after their marriage, he was drafted into the army and served as a radar technician in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean conflict. After his honorable release from the military, he finished his formal education at BYU with a degree in physics, math, and geology. His education opened the door to be employed by US Steel Corporation for 33 years as an industrial engineer.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, William had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. He served faithfully in many callings that included Elder's Quorum President, Stake Mission President, Bishop, High Councilor, and served as a Stake clerk. He also enjoyed the many years that he and Marilyn served as ordinance workers in the Timpanogos Temple.
William had many hobbies that included photography, gardening, camping, gunsmithing, and a lifelong interest in aviation. He was a member of the Utah Valley Aeromodelers for many years and had obtained a pilot's license in his later years. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
William leaves behind a large family that includes three sons: Mark (Karalean), Blair (Lisa), and Dale (Annette). He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter Karen (Edward) Payne, and three brothers, Ned, Gene, and Bruce, and one grandson, Austin.
