William Fleming Shriver, a beloved father, devoted life partner, and dedicated military officer, peacefully departed this world on September 19, 2023, at the age of 91. Born on June 20, 1932, at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, Bill was the son of Edwin Shriver and Ellen Schramm, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and adventure that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Bill was a loving father to two daughters, Donnie Fancher of Arkansas, and the late Connie Winters, who preceded him in passing. His unwavering commitment to his family was truly remarkable and extended beyond blood ties. Bill was a devoted life partner to Mary Shriver-Dumas, who also predeceased him, leaving an indelible mark on his heart and life.
His journey through life was marked by service and dedication. Bill attended the University of Utah as a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity before being drafted into the military. Despite the interruption, he pursued his education with unwavering determination, eventually earning his degree while serving his country.
A proud retired Colonel of the Army, Bill's military service spanned an impressive 21 years. His dedication to duty and honor was evident in every aspect of his life. He exemplified the values of discipline, sacrifice, and patriotism, earning the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him.
Beyond his military service, Bill was an active member of the Shriner and Mason organizations, demonstrating his commitment to community service and brotherhood. He had a deep passion for travel and was often found exploring new destinations with his beloved wife, Mary. An avid golfer and talented photographer, he found joy and solace in these hobbies throughout his life.
Bill's adventurous spirit extended to the skies, where he served as the pilot of his own aircraft for many years, embracing the freedom and thrill of flight. He was a man who truly soared to new heights, both literally and metaphorically.
In addition to his personal pursuits, Bill served his community as the Neighborhood Captain of Emergency Preparedness for many years, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of his neighbors. His dedication extended to his faith, as he was a faithful member of the Hope Baptist Church of Payson.
Bill Shriver's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on as an enduring testament to a life well-lived, marked by service, love, and adventure. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
His viewing will be held at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home at 85 East 300 South Provo, Utah on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 1:00-2:00pm with a graveside service and military honors following at Provo City Cemetery.
