Obituary

William Jared Wainwright, 12, passed away on August 8, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  William is survived by his devoted parents Mark William and Emily Louise (Smith) and sisters Julia Grace and Jenevieve Maia Wainwright who loved him deeply. Grandparents William Barclay and Christine (Snow) Wainwright; Chris Larkin and Julie Elizabeth (Gerber) Smith. Great-Grandparents Bruce and Juanita (Barclay) Wainwright, Lorna (House) Snow, and Ella Genevieve (Asay) Smith; Aunts and uncles Crystal & Ionut Ghica, Brandon & Valerie Wainwright, Bruce & Tegan Wainwright, Bryce & Jayley Wainwright, Keira & Renn Patch, Gene & Kerri Smith, Benjamin & Lindsay Smith, Sarah & Myke Argyle, Hannah Smith and 26 adoring cousins. William's life was defined by the love he had for his family.  He loved and cared for his sisters and his parents were blessed to have shared a special bond with him.  He looked forward to every family gathering where he could play with his cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. William loved fishing.  He loved swimming, karate, soccer, and going for bike rides.  William was a walking animal encyclopedia and loved to share his knowledge with others.  He loved dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals and was a regular at zoos, museums, and aquariums.  When indoors he liked to play video games like Minecraft and Halo, build Legos, and play Pokemon.  William had a witty sense of humor and loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He attended Wasatch Elementary School where he was loved by students and faculty. He truly believed it to be "The Best School in the Land." William was asked once what he would like if "Anything could be" and he said he wanted to be a dragon rider.  Dragons became symbolic of his struggle against cancer and his ability to tame and control the scary, awful things in his life, using them to lift himself and others. William was diagnosed with cancer at age 4 and bravely fought through multiple relapses. He endured treatment through most of the last 8 years of his life but remained hopeful and valiant in his determination to do his very best.  Through his cancer journey, William made many friends -- with staff and other patients at the hospital, through foundations that supported him, through neighbors, family members, and the many followers that learned to love him because of his kindness, patience, and strength through his trials.  He was always ready to make a new friend and to encourage anyone who needed help.     The family would like to thank Primary Children's Hospital and the Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant teams for their dedicated and loving care over the many years, as well as Millie's Princess Foundation and Anything Can Be, Mac's Gift, Camp Hobe, Children And the Earth, The Lighthouse Family Retreat, and Make A Wish Utah for their financial and emotional support.  Thank you also to all of the family, friends, neighbors, and followers who loved and will miss William. Friends may visit with the family on Friday August 16, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday August 17th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 102 North 2400 West, Provo, Utah.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Historic Springville Cemetery, 200 West 400 South, Springville, UT.  Condolences may be offered, and memories shared with the family online at www.walkersanderson.com In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in William's name to Millie's Princess Foundation Venmo (@MilliesPF) or PayPal ( https://www.paypal.me/MilliesPF ) to help families of children fighting cancer, or to CureSearch For Children's Cancer  http://www.curesearchevents.org/site/TR/CureSearchWalk/CureSeachWalk?team_id=4116&pg=team&fr_id=1881 to fund research for better cancer treatment.
