Zachary James McFarland, age 34, passed away the December 3, 2019.
Zach was born in Provo and lived in Orem most of his life. He attended Northridge and Windsor Elementary, Oak Canyon Junior High and Timpanogos High School. He also attended UVU. Zach died at his home in Moab, Utah, where he lived and worked as chef at "98 Center" restaurant.
Zach was the son of James and Deborah McFarland of Orem, Utah. He is survived by his parents, his brothers Mattson (Stefanie Slade), Jess (Paty), Marshall (Stephanie Rapp), Daniel (Ally), Morgan(deceased) and Joshua (Suzanne) Wolfe, and nephews Simon McFarland, Jack McFarland and Paxton McFarland and his two nieces Mesa Wolfe and Finnley McFarland.
The cause of death were the devastating after effects of the pancreatitis he survived ten years earlier in his life.
Zach had a vibrant personality and made friends wherever he went, rich poor, young old, it didn't really seem to matter. Spreading happiness and healing was his mission in life. Zach always had time to be a friend to someone in need. He loved outdoor activities as well as reading and music. He loved the cars and trucks he owned over the years. But "things" were a low priority for Zach. His family and friends (new or old) were what he took delight in. He loved being a chef, having learned from his mom and older brother Mattson. He cooked really good food.
As a young man he learned Spanish by following his sister-in-law (Pati) around, just soaking up everything she said. He was called on to be the translator at many of the jobs he held, even though he received little formal training. We joked that he must be part parrot because he could mimic any sound or person. Zach left his "good will" wherever he went.
Instead of a funeral, a celebration of his life will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Riverbottom Ranch, 1374 North River Road, Midway Utah. All are invited.
